Every page carries a dated source note. This page lists the primary sources we work from and flags the points where sources genuinely disagree.

Primary sources

  • Official MM2H portal and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture — tier requirements, participation fees, licensed agent register, minimum stay.
  • Immigration Department of Malaysia — pass conditions and endorsement.
  • MDEC — DE Rantau eligibility, income requirements and application data.
  • Inland Revenue Board and budget announcements — tax residency, the foreign-source income exemption, RPGT, stamp duty.
  • Sarawak and Sabah state programmes — administered independently of the federal programme, with their own terms.

Where sources disagree

We flag these rather than pick a side silently:

  • Offshore income for Gold and Platinum. The official portal lists no income test. Several agent and advisory sites, and one parliamentary report, describe a continuing requirement. We treat the official portal as authoritative and tell you the disagreement exists.
  • Minimum stay. Some agents cite 60 days. The official position is 90 days for under-50s and none at 50 and over.
  • Penang landed property minimum. Reported variously as RM 1.8 million and RM 3 million. We publish RM 3 million and note the conflict.

What is obsolete

MM2H changed materially in 2021, December 2023 and June 2024. Figures from before the June 2024 revamp — a RM 1,000,000 deposit, RM 40,000 monthly income, RM 1.5 million liquid assets — are obsolete and still widely republished. If you see them quoted as current, the source has not been updated.

Common questions

Are pre-2024 MM2H requirements still valid?

No. MM2H was substantially revised in 2021, again in December 2023, and again in June 2024. Figures such as a RM 1,000,000 savings deposit, RM 40,000 monthly income from overseas and RM 1.5 million in liquid assets are obsolete, though they are still widely republished on sites that have not been updated.
